Loretta “Dawnie” Dawn Sugg Carter, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who the lord has called home on April 24, 2026. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 87. Born on March 24, 1939, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Loretta was loved and raised by Jap and Callie Sugg. Loretta worked at Royal Cakes for 20 years.
Loretta was a woman of many passions, each reflecting her joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved the lake where she spent countless hours fishing and relaxing on the front porch doing her word puzzles with a drink in hand. If you ever went to her house, you know you were not leaving on an empty stomach. She fed everyone very well and made sure you had a plate to go home as well. She had a love for animals, especially her four-legged companions. If her dogs couldn’t go, she didn’t want to go either.
Loretta is reunited in eternal peace with her first husband, Duke Carter, her grandson, Daniel Carter, Jewel Murray, and her late husband Hyme McCarthy. Though their absence is deeply felt, the love and memories they shared will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew them.
Loretta leaves behind a family to cherish the memories forever: children, Danny Carter (Susan) and David Carter (Wendy); her beloved grandchildren, Katie Carter-Utt (Micah), Lauren Belcher (John), Claudia Russell (Clayton), Sam Carter, Wyatt Carter, Brandy Scales (Dalton), and Mark Wilson (Elizabeth); along with many great grandchildren. Each carries forward a piece of her spirit and memories to last forever. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM, Wed., April 29, 2026, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Mr. Mark Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Loretta “Dawnie” will be dearly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her. May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and warmth she so freely gave during her lifetime.
