Lucia Smithdeal

Lucia Johnson Smithdeal, 99, joined the Saints on Saturday morning, November 17th, at Arbor Acers in Winston-Salem.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Foss Tyra Smithdeal; her parents, Charles Curtis and Elizabeth Johnson; her brother, Charles Curtis Johnson, Jr.; and her sister, Frances Lionberger. Mrs. Smithdeal is survived by one son, the Reverend Foss Tyra Smithdeal, Jr., and his wife, Debra, of Lake Norman; one daughter, Dianne Smithdeal Hodges of Winston-Salem; nine grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and many other extended family and friends. Mrs. Smithdeal was born February 3, 1919 in Columbia, SC, and lived in St. George, SC and Roanoke, VA before settling in Winston-Salem.  She graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School and Draughn’s Business College, and took her first job at John’s Realty Company, where she met her future husband.  She was a member of Ardmore United Methodist Church for 78 years, where she actively participated in the United Methodist Women Organization and served in countless other capacities. Above all else, Mrs. Smithdeal gave and received more love than anyone can measure.  She loved her family deeply, cherished her friends, and was adored by everyone who met her. Services for Mrs. Smithdeal will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Ardmore United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dr. Matthew Farabow and Rev. Joe Hout officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the church prior the service. A private family interment will follow the service at Forsyth Memorial Park In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ardmore United Methodist Church or our local hospice care provider, Trellis Supportive Care.
