Lucille “Lucy” Stinson Coats, 89, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 12, 2018, at Forsyth Medical Center following a brief illness. She is now joining her grandson, Jason Rudisill, nine brothers and sisters, and several nephews in heaven. We can only imagine the joyous reception she was given. She was born in Enterprise, Alabama, to Daniel E. Stinson and Georgia Ann Jones Stinson on September 25, 1929. She raised her two daughters in Albany, Georgia and Raleigh, NC, participating in all their school, scouting, gymnastics and swimming events. She was active in the Junior Women’s Club, her church and various garden clubs and was a charter member of the Raleigh Racquet Club. In 2000, Lucy made the decision to move to Winston-Salem, NC, where she continued to live a full and active life until her health began to decline. Having grown up on a farm in rural Alabama, she loved having her hands in the dirt and always had a vegetable garden – sharing her vegetables with friends and family. She was known as an extraordinary hostess and cook. Many friends made special requests for her famous 14 layer chocolate cake or pound cake and there was rarely a church dinner that did not include her delicious cakes. She loved her Hope Presbyterian Church family, especially the children, and kept the nursery for many years. Lucy had a special place in her heart for her neighbor and friend, Kathy Bussolati, as well as Ned, Leah, Anna Rose and David (her special “little man”) Erickson. She greatly appreciated the laughter and love they shared over the years. Her family thanks you for being such a special part of her life. She is survived by her daughter, Lottie Kay and her husband, Bill, of Winston-Salem, NC; her daughter, Debbie Pace and her husband, Mike, of Aberdeen, NC; her granddaughter, Jenny Lee Rudisill of Aberdeen, NC; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Hope Presbyterian Church, 2050 North Peace Haven Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106, with Reverend David Speakman officiating. He so accurately described Lucy as an “utterly unique woman of God.” Visitation will follow the memorial service. There will be a private committal service. In lieu of flowers, Lucy requested that any memorials be directed to Hope Presbyterian Church’s Building Fund. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
