Mrs. Macye Lorene Powell Worrell, 95, formally of Winston-Salem, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Ashton Place Health and Rehab. Mrs. Worrell was born on September 27, 1919 in Pittsylvania County, VA to John Albert and Edna Bishop Powell. Mrs. Worrell was beloved by all and will be remembered by her contributions to her community and church. She was a long-standing member of Waughtown Baptist Church. There she served for several years as president of the WMU. She also served as chairman of the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. Mrs. Worrell was personally involved with the Mental Retardation Association of Winston-Salem as well as numerous volunteer efforts within the special needs community. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Francis Lyle Worrell; one son, Donald Worrell; six brothers; and three sisters. Surviving are one daughter, Barbara Henderson of Greensboro; one son Ryland Worrell of Las Vegas; two grandsons Neil Henderson and wife Melinda of Greensboro and Bryan Henderson and wife Heidi of Alpharetta, GA.; and two great-grandchildren Konrad and Dean Henderson. A funeral service will be held on Monday 18. 2015 at 2:00 PM at Waughtown Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Jimmy Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
