Madeline Bedsaul Brooks, 90 of Winston-Salem passed away Saturday, December 13, 2014 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born September 2, 1924 in Forsyth County to the late Kemper and Sue Burnette Bedsaul. Her true loves in her life were her children, grandchildren and gardening. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from East Carolina University. While at East Carolina, she was a violinist in the college symphony. She has a Master's Degree in Vocational Rehabilitation, from Virginia Commonwealth University. She was a Board Member of the NC Commission of the Blind. Blinded at a very young age, she was instrumental in starting the Visual Impaired Program for the Winston-Salem and Forsyth County Public Schools. Her twenty year career was devoted to this profession. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Worth Brooks, Sr. and parents, Kemper and Sue Bedsaul. Surviving are three children; Roxanne Hoots and husband, Melvin of Charlotte, NC, Beth Holyfield and Dr. Paul Holyfield of Martinsville, VA. and Charles Worth Brooks, Jr. and Deborah of Winston-Salem, six grandchildren, Brooke Grant, Meredith Lansing, Sara Hoots, Charles Worth Brooks, III, Lizzie Williamson and Kemper Brooks, two great-grandchildren, Ava Grant, and Hudson Grant. A Graveside Service will be conducted Sunday, December 21, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Forsyth Memorial Park with Rev. Beth Woodard officiating. Memorials may be made to Kate B.
