Majorie Harris

Mrs. Marjorie Williams Harris (96) of Winston-Salem, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday,
September 20, 2017 at Carriage House Memory Care in Greensboro, NC. She was born February 2, 1921 in Hyde County to the late O.L.Williams and Carrie McNeill of Scotland County. She was proceeded in death by her husband A. Lawrence Harris. She is survived by two sons, Richard L. Harris of Chapel Hill, NC, and John K. Harris (Susan) of Archdale, NC, two daughters, Patsy Gordon of Dalton, GA, and Janet Wathey (Wayne) of Raleigh, NC, six grandchildren Ashton Harris of Chapel Hill, NC, Jamie Harris of Archdale, NC, Mark Harris of Efland, NC, James Gordon II (Haley) of Atlanta, GA, Molly Gordon of Richmond, VA, Kelly Wathey of Raleigh, NC, and two great grandsons. Marjorie was a long-time member of Ardmore United Methodist Church where she was an active member of the choir for a number of years, a member of the Christian Fellowship Class and Ardmore Methodist Women. She attended Women's College of UNC in Greensboro, graduating in 1941. After graduation, she took a teaching position in Seaboard, NC, where she met and married her husband, Lawrence. She later taught preschool kindergarten in Burlington, NC, at Shiloh Presbyterian Church for 12 years. Marjorie was a devoted grandmother and enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren. She enjoyed watching and feeding birds in winter, golfing with her husband, and playing bridge with special friends. She volunteered at Samaritan Kitchen where she was named Volunteer of the Month on more than one occasion. She served for many years and had a love for the place and the people. "Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the Way, the Truth and the Life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me." John 14:1-6 KJV. A private memorial celebration of Marjorie's life will be held for the family at the residence of her
