Mrs. Mamie Jackson Akers, 80, died on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at Wake Forest Baptist Health. Mamie was born in Wythe County, VA, on March 15, 1938, to Thomas C. and Louise W. Jackson. She loved her family and adored her grand and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed painting, gardening, puzzles, shopping, and cooking. She painted many murals around and in her house and was voted to have the best yard in the neighborhood. She met the love of her life, Amos Crumpton, at PepsiCo. Mamie started as a machinist and retired as a bookkeeper with 25 years of service. She lived and enjoyed life to the fullest. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Amos Crumpton; one daughter, Mary Louise Locklear; one granddaughter, Alicia Beth Akers; one sister, Almer Marie Naylor; two brothers, John "Johnny" Julian Jackson and Thomas "Bud" Lewis Jackson; and one great-grandson, Nathan Tyler Clark. Surviving are five children, Luther "Jr." Dwayne Akers, Katherine Marie Akers, Debra Lynn Akers, David Wayne Akers (wife Tammy), and Billy Joe Akers (Brenda Kay); 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one brother, Perry Jackson (Sharon); and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 4pm on Saturday, March 31, 2018, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Francis Smith officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
