Mamie Mitchell

Mrs. Mamie Iona Joyce Mitchell, 86, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born in Stokes Co. on July 23, 1932 the daughter of the late Osborne Joyce and Maxie Lee Lynch Joyce. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of Volunteer Primitive Baptist Church. She had a servants heart, working many years as a home health caregiver. Mrs. Mitchell was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed greatly by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Doc Finley Mitchell; four brothers, Junior Joyce, Tommy Joyce, Aubrey Joyce and Jack Joyce; and a sister, Nancy Bell Smith. She is survived by two sons, Farrell Cook (Anita) and Mark Cook (Susan), four grandchildren, Torium C. Matthews (Adam), Joshua F. Cook, Sydney C. Buffkin (Shannon) and Colton Cook; three great-grandchildren, Dylan A. Matthews, Drake A. Matthews and Hudson Buffkin; one sister, Ruby Joyce; two brothers, Swanson Joyce (Ruby) and Frank Joyce (Doris); and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Volunteer Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Jimmy Joyce and Elder Danny Smith officiating. At Mrs. Mitchell’s request there will be no formal visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Volunteer Primitive Baptist Church, 1393 Osborne Joyce Road., Pinnacle, NC 27043.
