Margaret Essick Carruthers

Mrs. Margaret Essick Carruthers, 82, of Winston-Salem died Monday, October 28, 2013 at The Oaks at Forsyth. She was born January 24, 1931 in Welcome, the daughter of the late, Elmer Ray and Mildred Miller Essick. Mrs. Carruthers was a lifelong member of Friedberg Moravian Church. She was owner of Caress Flower Shop and Dolls N Décor by Caress at Cloverdale Shopping Center. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John William Carruthers. Survivors include one brother, Hal Edward Essick, Sr. and wife, Peggy; three nephews, Hal Edward Essick, Jr. and wife, Wendy, Joel Ray Essick and wife, Carol and Jeffrey Dane Essick and wife, LeAnne; six great nieces and great nephews, Jonathan, Amanda, Zach, Chad, Josh and his fiancée, Samantha,Emily, Cara and Kelly; and her beloved pet and companion, Cat. A memorial service will be conducted Friday at 3:00 PM at Friedberg Moravian Church with Rev. James C. Newsome, Jr. and Rev. G. Thomas Shelton officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary.
