Margaret Henry Moore

Margaret Henry Moore, who lived a remarkable life of 100 years and seven months, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 5, 2025, at home, surrounded by her family.

Born May 20, 1924, in Yazoo City, Mississippi, she was the youngest of four daughters of William Andrew Jr. and Elizabeth Mary Jones Henry. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Donald Moore, and her sisters, Rebecca Edwards Brown, Elizabeth Mary “Betty” Henry, and Mary Honoure Wolverton.

She is survived by two daughters and their spouses: Rebecca Newby (W. Kent Newby) and Elizabeth Mary McKee (W. Jack McKee); four grandchildren: Elizabeth Mary Margaret Grimes, Charles Andrew Stringer, Trevor McKee, and Sterling McKee; and three great-grandchildren: Landon Charles Grimes, Selah Elizabeth Stringer, and Jonathan Shepherd Stringer. She is also survived by nephews David and Joe Wolverton and their wives, Pat and Glynda.

Margaret was devoted to her community, her church, and to causes that uplifted others. She was a member of PEO Chapter AB and helped organize PEO Chapter BZ in Winston Salem. She was also a member of the Colonel Joseph Winston Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and she and her husband Don, received the New York State DAR Community Service Award in 2004.

She loved to cook and co-authored The Three Cooks Book with her sisters. She taught cooking classes at Noroton Presbyterian Church and for the Junior League, and her creativity and leadership were central to her service with the Presbyterian Women’s Association and the Darien Community Association. After moving to North Carolina, Margaret continued her church involvement by baking and gifting loaves of bread to newcomers through the Clemmons Presbyterian Church’s outreach ministry.

In Savannah, Georgia, where she and Don retired, Margaret became chair of the Community Volunteer Committee at Skidaway Presbyterian Church. Her service to the Salvation Army included organizing their Christmas store efforts and founding the Women’s Auxiliary, which led to her appointment to the Advisory Board, a role she cherished deeply.

Margaret’s life was defined by faith, service, and grace. She read the Bible in its entirety five times, taught Sunday school, and inspired many with her generous spirit.

She often said that her happy childhood in Yazoo City, Mississippi, grounded her in love and community—values she shared abundantly with everyone she met. something she attributed to her loving parents and the blessings of being the youngest of four girls.

A Celebration of Her Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Clemmons Presbyterian Church in Clemmons, North Carolina.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the caregivers and staff of Bermuda Village where Margaret lived for almost 25 years, and to the caregivers of Karman Legacy Hospice in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and the caregivers in Ancram, New York.
