Marguerite VanCamp Clodfelter

Marguerite’s father used to say she was “found behind the Christmas tree” to describe her birthday of December 26, 1926, and that phrase only begins to tell the story of the gift she was to everyone she met.

Growing up in rural Alberta, Canada as the only girl and youngest of 3, she learned to be tough as well as kind.  Her family eventually immigrated to upstate New York.  When World War II broke out, she was in training to be a nurse, a career that spoke to her intelligence and interest in medicine. While in the Cadet Nurse Corps she met a redheaded Lieutenant named Robert Clodfelter who swept her off her feet and became the love of her life for what would be almost 70 years together. From there a beautiful family ensued with four children, Sharon Kuhn, Cathy Shoaf, Barbara Foster and Robert Clodfelter, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Over the following years her life was enriched by a faith in God that shone through her. She prayed for and counseled many. Her grandchildren, Joshua and Lydia, always felt that “when Gram prays, things happen”. She was a prayer warrior.

She devoted her life to pursuing her Lord and blessed so many lives through her love and faithfulness. Though we mourn that her mortal life ended in this world on August 17, 2023, we rejoice that her greatest adventure has just begun…  and she has promised “to save you a seat”!  We are so thankful for the life she lived and the privilege it has been to know her.

A "Celebration of Life" service will be held at Reynolda Church, 2200 Reynolda Road in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at 2pm, with Rev. Alan Wright officiating.
