Marie Walser McDowell

Mrs. Marie Walser McDowell, 82, of Winston-Salem died Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born November 21, 1932 in Forsyth County, the daughter of the late Floyd Red and Mattie Helper Walser. She grew up in the Waughtown community where she was a member of First United Church of Christ. She later joined Old Town Baptist Church and was presently a member of South Fork Baptist Church. For many years she volunteered at Forsyth Medical Center, Medical Park Hospital and The Old Hickory Council of The Boy Scouts of America. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by five brothers, Fred Walser, Robert Walser, Franklin Walser, Clarence Walser and Richard Walser and three sisters Nona Walser Richardson, Mary Ruth Walser and Helen Walser Hutchins. Survivors include her husband, Joseph Wesley McDowell of the home; two step daughters, Diane Clinard and husband, George of Advance and Melissa Campbell and husband, Dock of Ragland, AL; and number of nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted Monday at 2:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Paul Smeltzer officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
