Marilyn Joyce Sowers Boles

Mrs. Marilyn Joyce Sowers Boles, age 80 years, of Lexington, NC passed away Sunday April 23, 2023, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Marilyn was born in Davidson County to the late William Sowers and Ethel Hyatt Sowers on February 8, 1943.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Larry Everette Boles, and her sister, Glenda Charlene Sowers. She is survived by her daughter, Heather Ortega; her beloved granddaughter, Zoe Ortega; and son-in-law, Dr. Victor Ortega.

Marilyn was a graduate of North Davidson High School, Class of 1961.  She is best remembered as being a devoted stay-at-home mother and was previously employed at Hunter Publishing, Holyfield Studios, RJ Reynolds, and Wake Forest Baptist Health. She most prided herself on her family's accomplishment of the founding of Midway Baptist Church and its congregation which exists today. Marilyn was always proud of the family farm she and her family were raised on for generations.  Marilyn enjoyed riding motorcycles with her husband and their friends.  Marilyn will be remembered for her witty sense of humor but mostly for her enormous love for her granddaughter which she called “Zo Zo”.     

Marilyn was diagnosed with frontal lobe dementia and end-stage liver disease over the past decade that sadly impacted her mental state, the quality of her life, relationships she previously cherished with family and special friends.  She is very much loved by Heather, Zoe, and her many friends who will miss her.
