Marilyn Elaine White Crockett, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026, at 9:01 a.m. at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was born March 7, 1950, in Morganton, North Carolina, to Charles Edward White and Lois McDaniel White.
Marilyn was a beautiful woman both inside and out—a sweet soul with a gentle spirit, a kind heart, and a deep compassion for others. She was loving, caring, and always ready to offer encouragement, advice, prayer, and a helping hand. Her bubbly personality and sweet spirit brought warmth and joy to those around her, and she had a way of making people feel loved and cared for.
Marilyn’s faith in Jesus Christ was at the very center of her life. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Mooresville, North Carolina, where she served on the Loving Hands service team, visiting and calling on shut-ins. Her faith was not simply something she professed; it was something she lived each day. She had no fear of death because she knew that Jesus would be waiting for her with open arms. What grieved her most was the thought of leaving the people she loved behind.
On March 19, 1979, Marilyn married the love of her life, Louis Julian Crockett Jr., in Gaffney, South Carolina. Their 47 years together were filled with love, family, faith, laughter, and countless memories. Louis will always cherish Marilyn not only as his wife, but as his lifelong companion and best friend.
In 1985, Marilyn and Louis began spending time at Lake Norman, where they had a small cottage. The lake eventually became their special place and, in 2021, their permanent home in retirement. Marilyn loved the lake—the water sports, swimming, boating, watching the boats pass by, and simply sitting together enjoying the beauty around them. She especially enjoyed seeing the deer grazing in their front yard. The lake was a place where Marilyn and Louis created some of their most treasured memories together.
Marilyn was also happiest when she was caring for others, and one of the ways she expressed her love was through cooking. She was an excellent cook and took great pleasure in preparing food for her family and friends. During her years as a member of Clemmons First Baptist Church, she prepared fellowship meals for 150 or more people. Cooking was more than something she enjoyed—it was one of the ways she showed people that they were loved.
Marilyn was a devoted mother to her two daughters, Teresa Ayers and her husband, Norman, and Valarie Floyd and her husband, Brian. She was also a loving grandmother to Clayton Ayers and his wife, Kirstun; Samantha Black and her husband, Austin; and Hannah Floyd. She was a cherished great-grandmother to Cayden Ayers, Colt Black, and Adelynn Black. Her family was one of the greatest joys of her life, and the love she poured into them will continue through generations.
Marilyn graduated from North Forsyth High School in 1968 and later attended Forsyth Technical College, where she studied accounting and bookkeeping. Throughout her working life, she held a variety of positions, including key punch operator at McLean Trucking Company and legal secretary with several law firms, including Womble Carlyle. Later, she joined Louis at Keiger Graphic Communications, the family printing business. There she established the company’s first computerized accounting system and worked alongside her husband for 22 years before retiring.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Edward White and Lois McDaniel White, and her brother, Larry Eugene White.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Louis Julian Crockett Jr.; daughters Teresa Ayers and her husband, Norman, and Valarie Floyd and her husband, Brian; grandchildren Clayton Ayers and his wife, Kirstun, Samantha Black and her husband, Austin, and Hannah Floyd; great-grandchildren Cayden Ayers, Colt Black, and Adelynn Black; sisters Linda Williams and her husband, Jim, and Charlene Jones and her husband, Daryl; brother-in-law Scott Crockett and his wife, Phyllis; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Marilyn leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, compassion, and kindness. She was a sweet and godly woman whose life reflected the love of Christ in the way she cared for her family and others. Though her family grieves deeply at her passing, they can find comfort in knowing that Marilyn is now in the presence of the Savior she loved and trusted throughout her life.
She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by the family and friends whose lives she touched.
A funeral service for Marilyn will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Trinity Baptist Church in Mooresville (221 Ervin Rd, Mooresville, NC 28117) with Dr. Mark E. Harris officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service at 2:30 pm at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Winston Salem. Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel is assisting the Crockett family.
