Mark William Gustafson

Mark William Gustafson died on August 4, 2025, at the age of 76. He was born to Kenneth and Bonnie (née Beard) Gustafson, the first of three children, born in Worcester Massachusetts, and raised in Charlton City, Massachusetts. He was a student athlete at Appalachian State University, where he excelled in soccer and was a member of the Men’s A Club. He graduated with a master’s degree in education in 1971 and went on to teach physical education in the Iredell County school district in North Carolina. He was married to the love of his life, Sandra, for 53 years. He began working in personal finance in 1984. He and Sandra moved around a lot, but finally settled in Kernersville, North Carolina. He last worked for People’s Bank, in Hickory, North Carolina, until his retirement in 2015. He was proud of his son, Kyle.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Erica Shay Gustafson.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Lee (née Robinson) of Kernersville, son, Kyle (Jillian) of Alexandria, Virginia, sister, Joellen, of Charlton City, Massachusetts and brother, Peter (Debra) of Advance, North Carolina. He also had many supportive and loving in-laws and friends. He will be missed.

A memorial service will be held, 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Pastor Jay Armel officiating.
