KERNERSVILLE - Marlene Clemmons East, 80, died September 30, 2016 at her home, when Heaven gained another angel. Marlene was born November 29, 1935 in Forsyth County to Forrest Cabel and Clara Parrish Clemmons. Marlene was a member of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church and the Robert West Sunday School Class. She had a long career with RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co, retiring after 28 years as Personnel Manager. She was well loved by the community and was responsible for starting many peoples Career at RJ Reynolds. Marlene spent several years in retirement at Harkers Island, where she loved to fish and held the NC record for the largest Pin fish for many years. She also attended Harkers Island UMC.
In addition to her parents, Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, John Franklin East; a brother, Edward Clemmons; and a sister, Jean Tuttle.
Surviving are her son, Mark East and Teresa Smith; her daughter, Kim Joyce (Todd); three grandchildren, James East, Brittany Joyce and Morgan Joyce; one great grandchild, Natalie East; a sister-in-law, JoAnn Williard (John); and many special nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Lyons officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 3, at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel.
