Marlene Flinchum

WINSTON SALEM - Marlene Pope Flinchum, 86, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Summerstone Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Marlene was born on September 28, 1931 in Forsyth County to Stokes Ivey and Orpha Leonard Pope. She was a faithful member of Sedge Garden United Methodist Church and retired from Robert B. Glenn High School - Guidance Department in 1995, where she was well loved by the faculty and students alike. Marlene was a loving, caring mom and friend to all. Her children are very blessed to have had her for so many years, but know she is at peace in the arms of Jesus.
In addition to her parents, Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, E.L. "Shorty" Flinchum; a brother, Louis Billy Pope; three sisters, Etta Mae Pope, Margaret Elting and Frances Norman.
Surviving are her daughter, Vickie Flinchum; and her son, Derwin Flinchum.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church with Rev. Karen Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sedge Garden United Methodist Church, 794 Sedge Garden Rd, Kernersville, NC 27284.
