Marlene Hickman

Mrs. Marlene Bernita Scott Hickman, 83, of Winston-Salem passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018 at her residence after a short bout with cancer. She was born in Forsyth County to Alexander J. Scott and Notie Glass Scott on October 24, 1934. She was a graduate of Clemmons High School, class of 1953. Marlene was a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. Marlene was initially employed with the United Way of Forsyth County, where she and three colleagues raised the first million dollar campaign. She was later employed with the Wake Forest Cardiac Rehabilitation Program assisting in the first grant issued for this program. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Scott Foster (T.J.) and brother, A.J. Scott Jr. (Sarah); two nephews and one niece. She is survived by her loving husband Richard F. Hickman, whom she shared 63 years of marriage, son, Steven S. Hickman of Winston-Salem; daughter, Susan Yarbrough (Jeff); grandson, Landon; granddaughter, Lynsey (Jarrett) and beloved great grandchild, Skylar, all of Lake Norman, NC.; sisters, Maxine Scott Casper of Salisbury and Betty Scott Harrill of Winston-Salem; two nieces: Ann and Sandra; and two nephews: Ken and Donnie whom she loved. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Lisa Tanico officiating. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, W-S. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to either Bethel United Methodist Church, 2170 Bethel Methodist Church Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, or to a charity of your choice.
