Martha Lee Cave Bodford died peacefully at her home at the age of 85 on January 5, 2019 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Born September 30, 1933, Mrs. Bodford was the eldest of ten siblings and grew up on a tobacco farm in Surry County, moving to work in Winston-Salem after graduating high school. While raising three daughters, Mrs. Bodford worked alongside her husband as president of Bodford Construction. She was an active member of Bethesda Moravian Church, singing in the choir and serving in many positions within the congregation. She created the flower and tape ministry to the shut ins of her church and lovingly delivered flowers each week for many years. She also served on the Provincial Women’s Board of the Moravian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clint Franklin Bodford; her parents, Wesley and Nora Cave of Dobson; brothers, Kyle and John “JB” Cave; and sister, Clarine Sprinkle. She is survived by her three daughters, Cinda Alexander (Terry) of Apex, Holly Newsome (Rev. James) of Winston-Salem, and Dawn Fordham (Tres) of Laurel Springs; grandchildren, Meredith Alexander Carpenter (Travis), Elizabeth Alexander Green (Matthew), Mary Newsome, Christopher Newsome, James F. Fordham, and Mollie Fordham; and two great grandchildren, Graham Green and Noble Carpenter. She is also survived by her sisters, Linda Hemric and Barbara Davis of Dobson, Shelby Edwards of Roanoke, VA; and her brothers, Joe Cave of Dobson, and Roger Cave and Jacob Cave of Pilot Mountain. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Salem Moravian Graveyard. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:30 PM, Sunday, January 13, 2019 at New Philadelphia Moravian Church with Rev. James C. Newsome, Jr. officiating. A reception will follow at the church. The family would like to thank Trellis Supportive Care, Carla Koskinas PA-C, and a village of caregivers for their tender care during Martha’s illness. We could not have honored her wishes without your help. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Laurel Ridge Camp & Conference Center, 124 Pendry Dr. Laurel Springs, NC 28644.
