Martha Mayes

Martha Jo Haynes Mayes, 80, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center. Martha was born on September 19, 1936 to Joe Arvil Haynes and Frances Ingool Haynes in Jonesville, NC. She graduated from Reynolds High School and was a member of Freeman Street Baptist Church. She retired from RJR with 29 years of service. Martha was a free-willed and outspoken woman with a keen sense of humor. She particularly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and will be remembered for her kind heart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, George Bryant Mayes. Surviving are three sons, Joe Bryant Mayes and wife Jennifer, Michael Dean Mayes and wife Donna, and Terry Mayes and wife Dawn; a daughter, Angela Michelle Leonard and husband George; five grandchildren, Nicholas Mayes and wife Laura, Sara Michelle Mayes, Ashley Nicole Childers and husband Jason, Amanda Michelle Trivette, and Caitlin Nicole Trivette; three great-grandchildren, Elli and Jase Childers and Emily Scott Mayes; five step-grandchildren, Yvonne McElroy, Teresa Smith and husband Dathan, Jason Billings, Dustin Robertson, and Tristan Perez; two cousins Janet Mathis, and Lynne Haynes, and four special friends, Nanearl Hayes, Brenda Bennett, Jackie Duggins, and Donna Alford. A funeral service will be held at 3:30 PM, Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek with Rev. Bob Whitaker officiating. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at the funeral home.
