Martha Ruth Elledge Myrick, 76, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 22, 2014 at her home surrounded by family and friends following a ten year battle with breast cancer. She was born October 10, 1938 in Purlear, NC and moved to Winston Salem in grade school. Martha was loved dearly and was a generous caring person to all she met. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, friend, and loyal Christian. Martha retired as a registered nurse from Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in 2003 and was an active member of Burkhead United Methodist Church. She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Leslie and Andrew Robbins of Winston Salem and Elizabeth and Anthony Eckels of Houston; her grandsons, Augustine and Giovanni Eckels of Houston; two sisters and their husbands, Jewell and Bill Cook and Carol and Rip Koontz of Winston Salem; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William G.Myrick and brothers, Brian and Bruce Elledge. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Burkhead United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the church. Memorials may be made to Cancer Services Inc., 3175 Maplewood Avenue, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Martha's relatives, friends, and church family whose frequent expressions of kindness truly helped sustain her in recent months.
