KERNERSVILLE – Martin Luther “Luke” Gann, 87, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Kerner Ridge Assisted Living. Luke was born on June 25, 1936 in Stokes County to Ronald Bernard Gann, Sr. and Nellie Joyce Gann. He attended Union Cross Baptist Church and retired from RJ Reynolds with over 30 years of service. Luke was a 1955 graduate of Glenn High School, where he was an outstanding, 3 sport All Conference Athlete in Football, Basketball, and Baseball. He continued his education at Oak Ridge Junior College, graduating in 1957, and played on their basketball and baseball teams. Following college in 1958, Luke attended professional Spring Tryouts for the Baltimore Orioles.
Luke enjoyed golfing, a good game of pool, and riding horses, but his favorite pastime was spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Luke was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Gann, Jr., and Danny Gann; one sister, Mary Smith; a brother-in-law, Joe Smith; and a sister-in-law, Mary Gann.
Surviving are his brother, Sandy Gann (Jeanette); nieces and nephews, Lynn Parnell (Rick), Bernie Smith (Teresa), Lee Gann, Michael Gann (Tracy), Sharon Gann, Sonny Gann (Amy), and John Gann (Emily); 16 great nieces and nephews, Neal Parnell (Lindsey), Blakely and Smith Parnell, Adam Moretz (Melissa), Morgan Cook, Colby and Colton Cook, Taylor, Megan, Eli, Madi, Ethan, Peyton, Landon, Jake, and Kayden Gann.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Madison with Rev. Jack Rose officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Union Cross Baptist Church, 4350 High Point Rd, Kernersville, NC 27284
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to his church family at Union Cross Baptist for their loving support, cards, meals, visits, and prayers, all of which Luke and his family greatly appreciated.
