Marvin "Bud" Saunders

Marvin “Bud” Lee Saunders, 90, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on July 25, 1935, to John Herby Saunders and Pauline Marsh Saunders in Yadkin County, NC. Bud worked as a truck driver with Merita Bakery, Anchor Freight and 30+ years with Roadway, driving millions of miles and earning several awards for his dedication to safety. He and Verna attended Berean Baptist church until their health declined. Bud had a heart for anyone in need. He and Verna served with Meals on Wheels for many years until their health limited their activities. He would always look for a family in need at Christmas and provide for them. He gave generously to those in need or those who suffered, including Hurricane Hugo victims and recently to the citizens of Asheville following Hurricane Helene. He will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Cothern Saunders; and his second wife, Verna Kirk Saunders, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage before her death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Saunders; and sisters, Frances Hoots, Ruth Cain and Minnie Holcomb. Surviving are his daughters, Theresa Sharon Saunders, Lynda Marie Bragden and Carolyn Lea (Jim) Booth; grandchildren, Lacosta Danielle Childers, Anthony Lowell Childers and Nathan Harper Saunders; brother, Larry (Wilma) Saunders; his sisters, Mary Ann Shore and Carol Pope; and caregiver and friend, Pat Callahan. The family would like to thank Pat for her care and devotion to Bud’s needs during his declining health. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, February 13, 2026, at Parklawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Children’s Home of Greensboro, or to the donor’s choice of charities benefitting underserved communities.
