Mary Newsome Angel

Mrs. Mary Newsome Angel passed away early Sunday morning August 19, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born on September 12, 1928 in Forsyth County to the late Wilburn Thomas and Beatrice Hester Newsome. Mary went to live at Oxford Orphanage at the young age of 5 years old, when her parents died unexpectedly. She remained at Oxford until 18 years old, and then she went to college to study nursing. Mary married the love of her life Gilbert Angel in 1950. In 1952 she got a job at Dr. Richard Whitaker's office in Kernersville as a Registered Nurse. Mary worked as an RN all her life and retired with 36 years of service. She was a member of First Christian Church in Winston-Salem. Mary is survived by husband of 62 years Gilbert Angel; four nieces Carolyn Newsome, Christina Sagartz, Diana Kite, and Lori Wiltshire; five grand nephews Robin Newsome, Craig Newsome, David Newsome, Patrick Kite, and Brendan Kelley; one grand niece Meaghan Kite; one brother-in-law Harris Angel; and two sister-in-laws Phyllis Hartman and Marti Angel. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday August 21, 2012 at First Christian Church in Winston-Salem with Dr. Michael Simpson Officiating.
