Mary Elizabeth Barger

Mary Elizabeth Barger, 98, passed away peacefully on Wed., Dec. 2, 2015 at The Oaks at Forsyth. Some may know her as Nannie and others may know her as Mama Lib. She was born on March 6, 1917 and grew up at the Children's Home. Lib was a loyal member of Calvary Moravian Church where she found joy in watching children in the nursery. She enjoyed children so much that she made her home into a nursery and kept children of all ages for many, many years. She was a great cook, had an adventurous mind, and a heart of gold. She was loving and selfless, petite but in charge, loved her long hair, and treasured her family. Her faith in God and love for her family was always first. I know that if there is a daycare in heaven Nannie is probably already watching over her little babies right now.Lib had friends that she always kept close and thought of as family, and they thought of her the same. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Rodney Davis. Surviving are her daughter, Jessica Shields; son, William W. Walston; grandchildren, Curtis Davis, Rayvan Davis, and Jescinda Davis; and great grandchildren, Alex, Curt, Brooke, Chance, Elizabeth, Leslie, Christina, Sarah, Jamie, Brittany, Kirsten, Samantha and Hayley; as well as several great, great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, Dec. 7, 2015 at Calvary Moravian Church with Rt. Rev. Lane Sapp officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Moravian Graveyard. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM prior to the service at the church. Memorial donations may be made to Calvary Moravian Church, 600 Holly Ave NW, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
