Mary Evelyn Mills Pitts

“Well done thou good and faithful servant…” Matthew 25:21a

Early on the morning of October 27, 2025 Mary Pitts departed the land of the dying for her eternal home in Heaven. Upon her arrival there she fulfilled her life’s greatest goal of seeing Jesus face to face and was reunited with the love of her life, her husband Ralph Pitts.

When Ralph and Mary got married, he promised to show her the world; so off they went together by train, plane, boat or automobile on their various adventures. Her fondest memories were of playing golf in Scotland, traversing through the locks of the Panama Canal to see the Bridge of the Americas, riding both a water buffalo and a camel, and of holding a huge yellow Burmese python that Ralph would not even look at. Walking the streets of Glory will be Ralph and Mary’s greatest adventure yet.

Mary was an accomplished woman of great faith and persistent determination. She faced each of life’s challenges and difficulties head on and raised her four children to do the same. She anchored her life with faith in the promises that she found in Scripture and believed what the bible said. One of her favorite passages she clung to in the most recent years is Psalm 91. She loved knowing that her Heavenly Father watched over her in the dark of the night as He instructed his angels to keep her from all peril. She often prayed to be allowed to see those angels keeping company with her in her bedroom.

Mary was a lifelong Bible teacher and loved her church family at Bear Creek Baptist Church, in Mocksville, North Carolina. She taught all ages at one time or another in her life and served in areas ranging from Vacation Bible School to Sunday School.

Mary was creative and resourceful. She was a talented artist and a gifted seamstress. She often went into dress shops, examined the cut of a piece of clothing, came home and created her own pattern from brown paper and made incredible designer garments. She especially enjoyed decorating and interior design. Mary was constantly giving one room or another a fresh coat of paint or new wallpaper. Each of her homes was warm and inviting as well as beautifully arranged. Mary also surrounded her homes with well-kept and visually appealing yards. She loved irises and peonies along with roses and daylilies. The vegetable garden out back always grew enough to feed the entire neighborhood.

It goes without saying that Mary’s three remaining children, six granddaughters, and five great grandchildren will all miss her greatly. But we anchor our hope in the assurance that we WILL see her again.
