On April 7, 2018, the loving soul of Mrs. Mary Fisher took flight to her heavenly home as her daughter held her hand and she drew her final breaths.
Mary was born April 18, 1946 in Surry County. She worked as a hairdresser for many years at several beauty salons and formed many friendships with her customers. She grew up in Benham Baptist Church, where she attended with her large and close family. Mary was a huge Elvis fan and would often recruit her cousins and friends in daring antics in order to meet him. She loved to visit the beach with her cousins where they spent hours planning the pranks they played on one another. Most of all, Mary adored her grandchildren, Jake and Jackson, and was immensely proud of their accomplishments and the fine young men that they became. Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Olivia Hancock, as well as the love of her life, husband, Douglas Fisher.
Left to cherish Mary's memory are her daughter, Kristy Reece; grandsons, Jake and Jackson Reece; and her sister by heart, best friend, and cousin, Wanda Waddell. Also surviving are stepsons, Michael Fisher and Jeff Fisher; step-grandchildren, Sierra Southard and husband Will, Dakota Fisher, Zachary Fisher, Lakota Fisher, and Sequoyah Fisher; step-great-grandchild, Keegan Southard; and many cherished cousins, including Janice Ross, a special friend and loving cousin.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 13, 2018 from 6 - 9 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
Mary's beloved grandson Jackson was born with an array of special needs as well as Type 1 Diabetes. In honor of Jackson, the family asks in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to The Children's Center of Winston-Salem, 2315 Coliseum Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27106 or JDRF Piedmont Triad Chaper, 26 W Market Street B, Greensboro, NC 27401.
