Winston-Salem- Mrs. Mary Frances Kite Guffey, 88, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017. She was born in Forsyth County on July 11, 1929 and was the last of six children born to the late Gernie V. Kite, Sr. and Pearl Meredith Kite. She was employed 42 years, one month and 5 days by the G.A. Richardson Agency (Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company) where she served as office manager and secretary-retiring in 1995. In 1998 she began working for Polly's Alterations and Tailor Shop doing clerical duties. She worked for Polly's12 years until she had to retire in March 2010 due to major health issues. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Burley Guffey, her only child, Linda Kaye Guffey-Burke, and all of her siblings-four brothers, Harold Kite, Ray Kite, Lester Kite, Gernie V. Kite, Jr. and one sister, Helen Kite Padgett. She is survived by twin grandchildren, Jamie and Kelly; seven great grandchildren, Elissa, Kayla, Madison, Chase, Hunter, Alexis and Ryder; two great-great grandsons, Avan and A.J.; a great-great granddaughter, Elodie; a special niece, Connie Padgett; a very dear and special friend, Audrey Stone and a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Mrs. Guffey was an avid baseball fan, especially the Atlanta Braves. She attended games at 23 of our major league stadiums including five in California and two in Canada. A graveside service will be held at 10 am Tuesday, August 8, 2016 in Forsyth Memorial Park with the Rev. Jim Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday August 7, 2017 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
