Mary Hiatt

Mrs. Mary Frances Morris Hiatt, 84, of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018. She was born in Forsyth County on April 19, 1934, to the late Charles Schley Morris and Elsie Lavenia Pitts Morris. Mrs. Hiatt was a devoted member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she was a member of the choir. In 1952, she graduated from Rural Hall High School where she was on the student council, a member of the Future Homemakers of America, and a member on the basketball team with her sister, Norma and cousin, Pat. She worked for JA Richardson Co., RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co., and Josten’s Graphics and then worked part-time with Saver’s Insurance into her 70s. Mary loved watching Wake Forest basketball, Matlock, Little House on the Prairie, and spiritual programs. She enjoyed going to Sittercise every week. Mary was a kind and gentle woman, whom loved her family dearly. Preceding her in death are her: parents; husband of 38 years, Davye Lee Hiatt; and a sister, Norma Long. Surviving are: a daughter, La’Vena Hiatt; a son, Van Hiatt; a grandson, Brandon Hiatt and wife Alyson; four great-grandchildren: Haley Gross, Abigail Hiatt, William “Deacon” Hiatt, and Morgan Hiatt; a sister, Peggy Morris; a brother, David Morris; two sister-in-laws, Nancy Porter and Susan Lineback; many beloved nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Cujo. A funeral service will be held in her honor 2 PM Saturday, October 13, 2018, at First Pentecostal Holiness Church, officiated by Pastor Tim Wolfe. Interment will follow the service at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service, 12:45 PM – 1:45 PM at the church.
