Mrs. Mary Evelyn Ward Hutchens, 94, of Winston-Salem, passed away on August 8, 2019 at Rose Tara Plantation. She was born on July 3, 1925 in High Point to William Roby Ward and Edith Grace Yarborough Ward. Mrs. Hutchens was a lifelong member of Waughtown Baptist Church and active participant in numerous church sponsored activities. She was also a dedicated member of the church choir. Mrs. Hutchens was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilson Woodrow Hutchens; two brothers, Ronnie Ward and Wendall Ward; one sister, June Bivens. Surviving are her son, Henry Hutchens; daughter, Leah Hutchens O’Neal and husband Gary; two grandsons, Hayden O’Neal and wife Victoria Phipps O’Neal; Jeffrey O’Neal and fiancé Miranda Dalton; great grandson, Finley O’Neal; numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday August 13, 2019 at Waughtown Baptist Church with Pastor Eddie Brackett and Dr. Cecil Cave officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Waughtown Baptist Church , 1538 Waughtown St, Winston-Salem, NC 27107
