Mary Margaret Thompson Montgomery, 96, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 13, 2025.
Mary Margaret was born in Clay County, Florida on Christmas Day in 1928 to the late Nathaniel Thompson, Jr. and Ethel Crofts Thompson. Her mother passed away when she was nine years old and her father and stepmother, Mollie Harris Thompson, continued to care for her through childhood.
Mary Margaret graduated from Radford College (now University) in Virginia and received her bachelor’s degree in education. She was employed as an elementary school teacher and began teaching in Moro, AR. She also taught children in Wheaton, IL, Bristol, TN and Forrest City, AR where she finished her career, moving to Winston-Salem, NC shortly after to be closer to family. Mary Margaret was a member of West Haven Baptist Church in Clemmons. Always keeping her mind active, she enjoyed working on word puzzles and was an avid reader who was especially fond of reading her Bible.
In addition to her parents and stepmother, she was preceded in death by her sister, Lougenia “Genie” Thompson Gaines.
Surviving family includes her daughter, Donna V. Montgomery; three brothers, Rev. Nathaniel “N.A.” Thompson, III (Joanne), William “Bill” P. Thompson (Peggy) and Charles S. Thompson; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 1821 Ashley Loop, Reidsville, NC 27320, with Pastor Ed Kuhar officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bible Open Air Mission, PO Box 398, Fanwood, NJ 07023.
