Mary Middleton

Mary Ruth Minish Middleton, 95, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Salemtowne Retirement Community in Winston-Salem. She was the loving wife of James H. Middleton who she married on December 31, 1939. Mary Ruth was born on June 29, 1922 in Forsyth Co. to Wayne Fullwood Minish and Clella Combs Minish. She graduated from Reynolds High School in 1939. She was a lifetime member of Calvary Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir for 60 years, cooked for Wednesday night dinners and was a volunteer nursery worker. Mary Ruth's family was a very important to her and she dedicated her life to raising and caring for them. She also enjoyed devoting her time to church activities and was an excellent cook. She was preceded in death by her parents; two granddaughters, Stephanie Martin and Anna M. Fishburne; 3 brothers; and 1 sister. She is survived by her husband of 77 years, James H. Middleton; five children: John W. Middleton and wife Judith of Winston-Salem, James R. Middleton and wife Ann of Mt. Pleasant, SC, William S. Middleton and wife Beth of Boones Mill, VA, Linda M. West and husband Chester of Drexel, NC and Rebecca M. Payne of Winston-Salem; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. A service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 1:00 PM at The Saal in The Community Center of Salemtowne Retirement Community, with Pastor Gary Byrum and Rev. Linda Browne officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:00 - 12:45 PM at Salemtowne. Burial and committal service will be held on Monday, December 4, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Forsyth Memorial Park.
