Walkertown - Mary Lou Swain Needham, 82, passed away Monday, September 18, 2017 at Kernersville Medical Center. Lou was born on April 21, 1935 in Forsyth County to Clinton and Eva Crutchfield Swain. She was a lifelong member of Love's United Methodist Church and retired from the Forsyth County Sheriffs Department. As a young girl, Lou could most always be found on the basketball court or baseball diamond. Always a fierce competitor and worthy opponent, she celebrated many wins for her high school and the Winston-Salem City League teams. Lou was very involved in youth activities in sports. She was instrumental in bringing Little League Baseball, along with Dixie Softball to Walkertown. She also served as a board member of the football booster club. In addition to her parents, Lou was preceded in death by her two sisters, Ivey Flynn and Geraldine Waggoner; two brothers, Gray and Richard Swain.
Surviving are her daughters, Sharon Lane (Tom) of Walkertown, and Donya Mullins (Rob) of Greensboro; two grandsons, Creed and Hunter Mullins. She will be missed by her two special canine companions, Moses and Murphy.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Love's United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Updyke officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
Memorials may be made to Love's United Methodist Church, 3020 Main St, Walkertown, NC, 27051. The family would like to extend special thanks to her caregivers, Jana Kimble, Amy Jackson, and Marie McNabb.
