Mary Shields

Kernersville – Mrs. Mary Ruth Stanley Shields, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 21, 2018 at Piney Grove Nursing and Rehab. She was born on July 5, 1926 in Forsyth County to Joseph Byron and Kitty Mays Stanley. Mary was a member of First Baptist Church in Kernersville. After many years of service, she retired from Berry Water Gardens. Mary loved to play cards and was a very loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, William David Shields, Jr. She is survived by two sons, David Shields (wife, Margie) and Douglas Shields; one daughter, Kitty Paroda; seven grandchildren, Kevin Chilton (wife, Nicole), Vandon Sharpe (husband, Cliff), Tatum Shields, Faith Shields, Nikki Shields, Will Shields, and Skylar Jackson; and two great grandchildren, Scarlett Sharpe and Hunter Shields. A funeral service for Mary will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Dr. Stephen Martin officiating. Burial will follow the service at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 1:45 pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trellis Supportive Care at 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or an organization of the donor’s choosing.
