Mary Marlene Kiger Sinclair of Winston-Salem passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, Aug 23, 2018 surrounded by family. She was born Oct. 14, 1938 in Winston-Salem, to Herman M. and Mary V. Kiger. Marlene grew up in Winston-Salem and was active in the Salvation Army Songsters and graduated from Gray High School in 1957. She worked at R.J. Reynolds and Integon before leaving to raise her family full-time. Later her love of bargains and collecting led her and her husband to travel extensively dealing in antiques, collectible dolls, vintage toys and then Barbies and Beanies when she became co-owner and "Boss" of Sinclair Art Gallery. Marlene will be held close in the hearts of family and friends, always remembered by her sweet nature, gentle spirit, generosity and infectious humor. She was a faithful Christian attending New Friendship Baptist Church for many years. Her sisters' group, The Kiger Sisters blessed many nursing homes and church groups with their singing. Her joy of selfless giving touched untold numbers in retirement homes, the Gospel Light bus ministry and Salvation Army. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Ivan Sinclair; one brother, David Kiger. She is survived by her son, James "Jay" Ivan Sinclair, Jr. of Winston-Salem, daughter, Gina Sinclair Bess (Terry) of Winston-Salem, grandson, Noah Sinclair Bess, who she cherished with all her heart, step-daughter, Lindley Sheldon Bess, her siblings, Herman Kiger, Jr. (Nancy) of Richmond, VA, Betty Sheek (G.R. deceased) of Bermuda Run, NC, Bobby Kiger (Betty deceased) of Winston-Salem, Andy Kiger (Susie) of Lexington, NC, Becky Byrd (Aubrey) of Mount Juliet, TN, Gary Kiger (Jean) of Lexington, NC, Susan Gordan (Wayne) of Advance, NC, Debbie Kiger of Winston-Salem and Terry Kiger of Winston-Salem and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 26th, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Chris Byrne officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:45 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the many friends, family members, and caregivers, who tirelessly helped her during her illness and are especially grateful to the following: Betty Sheek, Andy and Susie Kiger, Debbie Kiger, Linda Chambers, Karen Easter, Teresa Cope, the Hunnicutts, the Lopezes, the Caudils, Dr. Timothy Collins, Lynn Rosental RN, Arlethea McMillian, Susan Myers, Bridget Higdon, Ashley Capps, Brenda Hackett, along with the most incredible staff at Hospice of Winston-Salem.
