Mary Jane Voyles Todd, age 89, went on to be with her Lord on April 8, 2018. She was born on May 10, 1928 to David and Emma Voyles. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Gerald R. Todd, her parents, one sister (Charlotte Mullins), two brothers (David Voyles, Norman Voyles), and son-in-law (Gerald Renegar).
She is survived by her four children: Jeraldiene Renegar of Raleigh; Jack Todd (Gayla) of Ft. Worth, Texas; Jannette Whisenhunt (Mark) of Winston-Salem, NC; and Johnny Todd (Janet) of Huntersville, NC. She was the loving "Grandma Todd" of 8 grandchildren and 12 Great-grandchildren: Melynda Roberts (Burt and Hudson); Melyssa Kepple (John, Daniel, Amanda, Sarah); Michelle Fontanez (Jonathan, Abigail, Andrew, Anna); Ashli Shepherd (John, Elijah, Jackson); Mary Daniel (Alan, Rebel, Urban); Joshua Whisenhunt; Jacob Todd (Lindsay, Ryker); and Lindsay Todd Herre. She is also survived by three sisters; Helen Lindsay; Wilma Powers and Ruth Pickerill, and two brothers Donald Voyles and Ronald Voyles. She married Gerald Todd on Jan.27, 1947 in Indiana where they were both born and raised, and then they lived in many areas in the world as Gerald was a 27 year veteran of the U.S. Army. She spent many years as a nurses' aide working while her husband was deployed for several times during the Vietnam, Korea, and WWII wars, while he was away she raised their 4 children. They moved to Winston-Salem in 1971 and continued to raise their family and she continued her nursing career. Mary was a 40 year member of First Baptist Church on 5th St. Winston-Salem, where she loved to sing with the Seniors and helped many years with "Meals on Wheels". She was a strong woman who was very loving, kind and raised her family to love her Lord.
Her service will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 10 , 2018 at Hayworth Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Her grandson Jonathan Fontanez will officiate for the service along with her pastor Emily McGee. We want to thank the nurses, doctors and staff of Oak Forest Rehabilitation Center for their wonderful care while she was there. We also want to thank KBR Hospice for their care and services.
