Mary Wood

Mary Lou Skinner Wood, 89, passed away on Friday April 20, 2018 in Charlotte NC. She was born on March 16, 1929 in Greene County NC to Thomas and Effie Skinner and graduated from Maury High School in Maury, NC. Mary Lou was an active member of Konnoak Hills United Methodist Church where she served faithfully for over 45 years in many different capacities and was one of the original United Methodist Women "Chicken Pie Ladies." Affectionately known by her grandchildren as "Granny Gee," her greatest loves were her husband, children and grandchildren, neighbors, friends and church. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Ollie Linwood Wood. She is survived by one son Michael Wood and wife Joy of Kingsport, TN; two daughters, Terry Combs and husband, Kevin of Charlotte and Mary Beth Wood and William Cox of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Amanda Sloan of Huntersville, Kaleb Combs and girlfriend Cara of Charlotte, Eric Wood and wife, Sunny of Brisbane, Australia and Ryan Wood and wife, Katie of Houston, Texas as well as four great-grandchildren, Levi Sloan, Wyatt Sloan, Harper Wood and Crosby Wood. Granny Gee will always be remembered for her love and devotion to her family and church and for the generosity and kindness she shared with everyone she met. We'd like to give special thanks to the staff at The Laurels of Highland Creek who took wonderful care or our mama when she moved to Charlotte to be closer to family. You became very dear friends and we will be forever grateful for your kindness and loving care. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 11:00 - 12:00 at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem, NC with a service to remember Ms. Wood's life immediately following at 12:00. Burial to follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Konnoak Hills United Methodist Church, 430 Weisner Street, Winston Salem, NC 27127.
