Matthew Clayton Tharington

Matthew Clayton Tharington, 41, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2026. 

He was born on September 3, 1985, to Alan Tharington and April Hager. 

Preceding him in death were his grandparents, James and Jane Tharington, Eric Wilson, Jr. and Sam Easley. 

Matt was an avid Tarheel fan, loved going to the beach, singing, and sharing his entertaining stories. He was an organ donor, enjoyed helping people, and was a momma’s boy. 

Surviving are his daughter, Elle; two sons, Clayton and Cameron; mother, April Hager (Randy); father, Alan Tharington; three brothers, Joshua Tharington (Mackenzie), Jeffrey Tharington (Rachel), and Talan Tharington; and was the best big brother to his two sisters, Halie Tharington and Ashlyn Tharington. Also surviving are his grandmother, Shelby Easley; special friend, Kristy Nicholson; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews who all loved him. 

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Brookstown United Methodist Church with Rev. James T. “Chip” Webb officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
