Mattie "Belle" Hamm Sandefur

Mattie “Belle” Hamm Sandefur, 97, stepped out of time and into the presence of Her Lord and Savior, on October 23, 2023, at Woltz Hospice Home.  She was born on May 1, 1926, in Wilson County, NC to the late Joseph “Walter” and Ludie Hamm. Belle spent a great part of her life serving others by taking meals to sick and hurting friends and family, doing Bible studies, singing at nursing homes, teaching a ladies’ Sunday school class, praying for any need of which she became aware.  In her spare time, she enjoyed various crafts such as crocheting and sewing, and cooking and baking for others.  Her favorite pastime was reading her Bible or Faith’s Checkbook, writing poetry, and praying for her many missionary friends.  Only eternity will reveal how many lives she touched through her life on this earth.  She continues to touch lives as her legacy has just begun. Belle was preceded in death by her husband (James Lindley), her son (Ronnie D), her sister (Mildred), her brothers (Rufus, Earl, James “Jake”, Arthur, Jimmy) and her granddaughter, (Sherri).  She is survived by a son (Jim III) and daughter (Deborah), ten grandchildren, and twenty-three great grandchildren. A service to honor her life will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Calvary Baptist Church in King, NC with Pastor Kevin Broyhill officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service at the church.  Burial will be held at 2:00PM Friday, October 27, 2023, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 3920 Airline Blvd, Chesapeake, VA 23321.
