Mazie Matthews

Stokesdale – Mrs. Mazie Pruitt Matthews, 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Beacon Place. She was born on March 18, 1943, in Stokes County to Nathaniel Lee and Minnie Bullins Pruitt. Mazie was a beautician for over 10 years in the Stokesdale area. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Mazie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Daniel McKinley Matthews; a great granddaughter, Sonya Christine Pegram; and one brother, Jack Pruitt.

Surviving are two children, Randall Matthews (Susan) and Darlene Pegram (James); seven grandchildren, Nathan (Katie), Adam (Zoided), Rachel (Ben), Grant (Elizabeth), Derek (Hannah), Grace and Hannah; eleven great grandchildren with one on the way; five siblings, Irene Shields, Leona Cox, Oma Lou Pitts, Lula Mae Bullins, and Terry Pruitt (Angela); two sisters-in-law, Mary Bennett and Judy Garmon; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Mazie will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Gospel Light Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Shumate and Rev. Matthew Morrison officiating. A private burial will take place at Maple Lawn Baptist Church in Reidsville. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 10:45 am prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Gospel Light Baptist Church Bus Ministry 890 Walkertown-Guthrie Rd. Winston-Salem, NC 27101 or to AuthoraCare Collective at 2500 Summit Ave, Greensboro, NC 27405. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
