Medea Spainhour Cardwell

Mrs. Medea Spainhour Cardwell, 90, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Brighton Gardens Nursing Center in Winston-Salem. She was born in Stokes Co. on October 31, 1919 the daughter of the late Oscar Lee Spainhour and Nannie Ethel White Spainhour. Mrs. Cardwell was a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women. She retired from AT&T and Hanes Hosiery and in addition to her career, she enjoyed being a homemaker and working in her flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Spencer Burrow; her second husband, William Cardwell; five brothers; two sisters; and a granddaughter, Michelle Johnson. Mrs. Cardwell is survived by three daughters, Evelyn Gordon and husband Jack of Winston-Salem, Peggy Johnson and husband Barry of High Point and Carol Doss and husband Steve of Winston-Salem; one son, Stephen Burrow and wife Reta of Winston-Salem; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Estelle Pope of Kernersville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Cardwell will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Rev. Lori Anne Bowen officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 7-9 this evening, October 8, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. The family expresses our thanks and gratitude to the staff of Brighton Gardens for their loving care and concern for our mother during the past two years.
