Mrs. Melba Sue Burgess Sidden, 87, of Winston-Salem passed away Friday, June 8, 2018 at Trinity Glen Assisted Living. Melba was born in Forsyth County to the late Will Henry and Ruby Ruark Burgess on February 16, 1931. Melba was a longtime member at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. Melba was a graduate of Griffith High, Class of 1949. She retired from Coliseum Eye Associates after many years. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, neighbor and friend. Melba enjoyed going on family vacations, whether at the beach or at Reid and Louise's mountain house, she just enjoyed being with family. Melba especially loved playing jokes on her lifelong friend, Ruby Proctor, whom she loved like a sister. She also enjoyed spending time talking with her neighbor, Betty Carroll.
Along with her parents, Melba was preceded in death by her loving husband Wallace Lee Sidden; infant son, Alan Sidden; granddaughter Drew Sidden; sisters, Jewell Dodd; Hazel Ireland and Reba Livengood; brothers, Horace Burgess; Walter Burgess and Reid Burgess. She is survived by two sons, Mark Sidden (Vivian) and Jeffrey Lee Sidden; grandchildren, Elis and Zach Sidden; sister, Jackie Clinard.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Mary Miller and Rev. Jim Allred officiating. Family will receive friends 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, 4265 Ebert Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27127.
