Winston-Salem- Mrs. Melissa Brown Mowery, 64 passed away Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born July 22, 1959, in Wilkes County, the daughter of Robert and Lutrelle Poole Brown. Melissa was a licensed Optician for over 30 years and was an avid animal rescue advocate. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, but mostly spending time with her children and grandchildren to whom she was devoted. Melissa had a huge heart and would help anyone who needed it. She is preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her daughter Crystal Calloway (Brian) of Kernersville; her son, Jeremy Davis (Amber) of Salisbury; a step-daughter, Chandler Wiley (Blake) of Hawaii; seven grandchildren, Savannah, Joseph, Jaxon, Gracie, Brantley, Ellie Mae and Winter; two brothers, Gordon Brown (Carmen) and James Brown (Debbie) and her best friend, Sybil Brown. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Lake Thom-A-Lex Park, Shelter #3, 700 Yokley Rd., Lexington, NC 27292. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Fur-Ever Friends of NC, P.O. Box 15742, Winston-Salem, NC 27113. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
