Mrs. Melrose Moore Stocks of Winston-Salem passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2018. She was born in Greensboro to William Ravellon Moore and Ada Siske Moore. Mrs. Stocks graduated from the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro with a degree in English. Shortly afterward she met William Henry Stocks and they married on June 9, 1951. Mrs. Stocks taught public school in Leaksville, Raleigh, and Winston-Salem. She also taught adult Sunday School Class and shared her time and talents at Calvary Moravian Church. Mrs. Stocks volunteered at Baptist Hospital and served on the Garden Council board, boards of the Humane Society and the Forsyth County Animal Shelter. She loved watching college football and basketball and was a rabid NC State Wolfpack fan. Mrs. Stocks enjoyed playing golf and bridge, traveling, and was addicted to books. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, and brother, William Ravellon Moore, Jr. Surviving are two daughters, Suzanne Stocks Hawley and husband Ron, Catherine Stocks Singletary; grandchildren, Rob Singletary, Sam Singletary, Chad Hawley, Emily Ayscue and William Singletary; and great-granddaughters, Kayla Hawley and Avalyn Hawley. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Salemtowne's Smith Saal with The Rt. Rev. Lane Sapp and The Rev. Ramona Prestwood officiating. A reception will follow. Memorials may be made to the Moore-Stocks Scholarship at the N.C. Veterinary Medical Foundation, Inc, N.C. State University, Raleigh, NC 27695 or to the charity of the donor's choice. Flowers will be accepted, as well.
