Mr. Melvin Maurice Miller, Sr., 87, of Winston-Salem, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born June 23, 1931 in Forsyth County to Helena Carmon Miller-Goodman and Charles Roland Miller, Sr. Mr. Miller was a veteran who served in the U.S. Air Force and was retired from the Chicago Transit Authority as a bus driver for 35 years. For many years he helped his father and his brother at “Miller The Printer Shop” on Trade Street. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carmelita Ramsey Miller. Surviving are his two daughters, Diana Simon (Fred) of Chicago, IL and Cynthia Brooks of Atlanta, GA; one son, Melvin Maurice Miller, Jr. (Marsha) of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren, Timothy W. Brooks, Jr., Charles L. Madison (Gisselly), Melvin M. Miller, III (Dachele) and Makenzie W. Miller; three great grandchildren, Jailene Madison, Maurie M. Miller and Marc M. Madison and two sisters, Angelyn Wilson and Kay Barner. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday prior to the service.
