Melvin Pipgras

Colfax- Mr. Melvin Louis Pipgras , 81, passed away January 29, 2019 at his home. He was born in Clark County, Wisconsin, February 19, 1937 to the late Ludwig Johannes and Olive Josephine Pipgras. Mel was an Air Force Veteran who served in Germany and Japan for 8 years. He was a loving man, that loved his family, and opened his home to many people. He always said “our home has elastic walls” Mel was about his Faith, Family, Friends, and the working in his community. In addition to his parents, Mel was preceded in death by his 2 brothers, Dale and Ron Pipgras and one sister, Corann.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rudonna Payne Pipgras, three daughters, Johanna P. Chappell (Brent), Karra Pipgras, and Tamara P. Lloyd (Shannon), one son, Matthew Pipgras (Christina), and seven grandchildren, Paxton, and Shaelyn Chappell, Vincent Lloyd, Phoenix, Gillis, Greta, Ferguson Pipgras, and his five brothers, Leroy, Jim (Linda), Terry (Linn), Tom (Leona) and Frank,  and one sister Nancy Breeding (Jim) a sister in law, Marie, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Jim Holt officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00- 2:45 PM Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home. A reception will be held following all services on Saturday from 4:30-6:30 PM Saturday at Paul Ciener Botanical Gardens. A graveside service will be held 3:00 PM Monday, February 4, 2019 in Washington Memorial Park, in Sandston, VA. Memorials may be made to Community Home Care and Hospice at www.communityhch.com
