Mr. Michael Edward “Wooley Booger” Hicks, 72, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. He was born on January 18, 1954, in Forsyth County to John Wesley Hicks and Lillie Mae Mabe Hicks. Mr. Hicks served his country in the United States Army. He loved building things and worked in construction as long as his health permitted him. Mr. Hicks will be remembered as a hardworking, hardheaded family man who had a deep passion for motorcycles. He will be remembered greatly as a husband, father and grandfather, who loved his family dearly. Mr. Hicks was preceded in death by his father, John Wesley Hicks and two sisters, Linda and Brenda. He is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Opal Foster Hicks of the home; four sons, Michael Edward Hicks, Jr., Wesley Lee Hicks (Jessica), Juston LaRue Hicks and Travis Blake Hicks; and eight grandchildren, Lilly, Julian, Cameron, Avery, Junior, Carolina, Damian and Adrian; and his mother, Lillie Mae Mabe Hicks. As the oldest of his eleven siblings, he is also survived by his six brothers, Rex, Jimmy, Bobby, Keith, Geral and Darrell; two sisters, Barbara and Teresa and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall from 1:00-3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. There will be a celebration of life following the visitation starting at 3:30 p.m. at Village of Tobaccoville Community Center in Tobaccoville. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to: Trellis Supportive Care,101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
