Mildred Louise Cox

Our beloved Mama, Mildred Louise Childress Cox, 89, passed away on August 13, 2023.

She was born August 29, 1933 in Rural Hall to the late Franics Merron Childress and Fannie Mae Merrit Childress.

Mildred was preceded in death by both parents; her loving husband, Joe Hill Cox; four brothers, David Francis Childress, William Charles Childress, Elisha Franklin Childress, and Joseph Wilkie Childress; and one sister, Nancy Jane Childress Perdue.

Left behind to miss her are her daughters, Sharon Jo Cox Lucas, Judy Lynn Cox Jones (Jeff), Susan Dawn Cox Alberty (Rocky); devoted grandchildren, Joseph Bryan Lucas, Brandon Gray Lucas, (Jenni), Catherine Jones Snow (Jeff), Sarah Jones (Kevin Miller), Grayson Hunter Alberty (Cheyenne), and Savannah Elizabeth Alberty; and great-grandchildren, Caroline, Natalie, Brynlee, and Luke.

Mildred was a blessing to everyone she met.  She will leave an amazing mark on all those that loved and cherished her.

She was a devoted wife, “Mama” and “Nana”.  She has set a Godly example for those blessed to call her “theirs”.  Her strength, humor, compassion, and intelligence will live on in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

The family would like to recognize and say thank you to the staff of nurses and doctors at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital (Atrium Health) for the wonderful care they gave her, especially Dr. Francis O’Brian.

The family would love to receive friends from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home at the Silas-Creek Parkway Chapel.  A graveside service will be held the following day, August 17, 2023, at 11:00am, at Parklawn Memorial Park with Minister Bill McKenzie officiating.
