Mrs. Mildred Butner Park, 94, of Winston-Salem, passed away Monday, August 28, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born May 30, 1923 in Forsyth County to Martha Mock Butner and Luther Nathaniel Butner. Mrs. Park was a faithful and longtime member of Trinity Moravian Church and retired from the Winston-Salem/ Forsyth County School System as a fourth grade school teacher. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Connelly Park, Sr. Surviving are two daughters, Jeanne Ingram (Jim) of Lowgap and Martha Highsmith (Jim) of Lexington; one son, William "Bill" Park, Jr. (Carolyn) of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren, Wendy Sause (Bronwyn and Elijah) of Asheville, NC, Shelly Anderson (Louise) of Asheville, NC; Meredith Sause (Paul) of Chapel Hill, NC; David Park (Jamie, James and Oliver) of Oakland, CA; Katherine Park (Leon, Marilyn) of Winston Salem, NC; and Will Kingery (Dawn) of Winston Salem, NC; one brother, Luther N. Butner, Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews. Mildred loved life and lived it fully. You always found her with a smile, a quick wit, and a friendliness that was contagious to all who surrounded her. You could not be around her for long before she brought up basketball or some other sport, always rooting for the WFU Deacons with fervor. She relished being able to spend time in the mountains of Todd, NC and on the golf course. She had strong faith and her church family at Trinity Moravian Church was her rock throughout her entire life. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and extended that same love to many others in her community. She will be missed by all that knew her and her light will live on in everyone she touched. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Trinity Moravian Church with Rev. John Jackman, Rev. Bill McElveen and the Rt. Rev. Graham Rights officiating. Interment will follow in the Salem Moravian Graveyard. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Thursday in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Moravian Church, 220 East Sprague St., Winston-Salem, NC 27127 or to the Laurel Ridge Camp, 124 Pendry Dr., Laurel Springs, NC 28644.
