Mildred Myers Smoot

Mildred Myers Smoot, 90, passed away on May 22, 2026, at Oak Forest Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mildred was born on July 10, 1935, to Zora Sumner Myers and Elbert James Myers in Grayson Co, VA. She was a member of Arcadia Church of Christ.

Mildred and Tom had four sons. Mildred was very involved in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts through her sons. She also volunteered as a teacher's aide at their schools.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Harden Smoot, to whom she was married on Dec. 8, 1953; her sister, Ruth Crist (William); and her brother, Clyde Myers (Mary). Surviving are her four sons, David Keith (Wanda), Thomas Craig (Karen), Brian Chris (Sue), and Kenan Clark (Nancy); 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She also had many nieces and nephews as well as many members of her church family.

A brief graveside committal will be held at 10:30 am, on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens on High Point Rd. A memorial service will then be held, Thursday at 12:00 pm, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Brother Tony Morrison and Brother Bobby Leonard officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held in the Robert F. Miller Center, located at the funeral home. Mildred will lie in state the day before services, from 9 am – 4 pm, Wednesday, May 27, 2026. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in her name to Arcadia Church of Christ on Enterprise Rd, Lexington, NC, or to Liberty Hospice, 5 E Main St, Thomasville, NC 27360.
